2006 year proved to be a very busy year for the RMDS Choir.
As well as the usual series of concerts in Summer and at Christmas, the Choir
was also asked to perform at the memorial service for Megan Holman and also at
the wedding of Mr and Mrs Nick Maynard.
The theme for the Summer Concerts was “In Lands I Never
Saw”, giving the Choir carte blanche to perform music from all around
the world and, in a few instances, from out of it as well. Performance venues
were St Mary’s Ferndown, Harbridge Church, Trinity Church, and Ringwood Parish
Church. Christmas performances took place at Ellingham Church and the Meeting
House in addition to Trinity. In the course of the year the Choir raised nearly
four thousand pounds for various charities as a result of performances, and we
would like to thank every member of each of our audiences for their support.
If 2006 was busy, then 2007 was even busier. In February the Choir hosted a Valentine’s Dinner at Greyfriars, and
this was the first time that anything of this nature had been attempted. It was
a great thrill to everyone concerned that (a) the event sold out, and that (b)
everyone appeared to enjoy themselves! The Choir would like to thank everyone
who helped in the organisation of the event.
The “Poets and Peasants” series saw a richly
varied and exciting programme of music, ranging from Haydn and Mozart, through
Africa and native America, to film and TV, with plenty of stops in between.
