If you are interested in
becoming a member of the RMDS, all you have to do, to start with, is to come along to one of
our rehearsals. You must be at least fifteen years of age. Most rehearsals take place at
St Peter's Church Hall, Poulner. Rehearsals normally start at 7.45 prompt. Every new member wishing
to perform will be expected to audition, but not necessarily on the first visit. All members
have to audition in the Autumn prior to the singing rehearsals for our Easter Musical.
Following a successful audition, you will be required to complete a membership
form showing your name, address & telephone number plus main interests ie; performing,
stage management, wardrobe, set decoration, lighting, sound, props or whatever.
There is an annual subscription, currently £25.00 for full membership, which is
due within one month of the Annual General Meeting or prior to the particular production in which
you are taking part. This is essential in order that performers and crew are covered by our
insurance policy. Tax payers are invited to use the Gift Aid system if they are
willing. Our AGM is held in February, at which the Society discusses relevent topics
regarding the running on the RMDS and elects its Committee.
As well as recruiting new performing members we are always looking for help with our
Front of House organisation, catering, licenced bar, costumes, scenery, stage management and
props. If you decide not to perform in a particular show, your help will always be appreciated
in any of the areas above. We need waiting staff for The Soiree, bar staff for our annual
organisation of the Bar at the Ellingham Show and as many hands as possible when we have the
"get-ins" and "get-outs" for our shows in Greyfriars
Community Centre and The Ringwood School Theatre.
The Society owns a scenery and costume store in Verwood where we make all our
own sets and members with artistic or DIY skills are always welcomed by our Technical Director,
Simon Sketchley, and our Chairman, Julian Peckham.
